Gale force winds cause disruption in Cornwall

Gale force winds have been causing disruption in parts of Cornwall.

The Met Office said there had been gusts overnight of more than 55mph (88km/h).

Trees are down on several roads including the A388 between Launceston and Callington, Mawnan Smith and Menheniot.

The Environment Agency has issued a flood alert for the Upper, Middle and Lower Tamar which could rise rapidly because of the heavy rain.

Earlier, 1,100 homes lost power due to the weather in the Budock Water and Bickland Hill area of Falmouth, west Cornwall.

Western Power Distribution said most of its customers had now been switched over to alternative supplies.
