The funeral of a Cornish fisherman who died in hospital after his boat sank just before Christmas has taken place.

Ian Thomas from Mevagissey near St Austell had been on a night-time fishing trip.

The skipper of the vessel, the Heather Anne, survived when another boat from the harbour came to the rescue.

Mr Thomas was taken to the Royal Cornwall hospital in Truro, but died shortly afterwards.

In a eulogy, Mr Thomas' friend Malcolm Saunders described him as "a truly honest and honourable man with loyalty to his friends".

Mr Saunders went on to say that all the way through his life Ginge, as his friends called him, had "the unfailing support of his family, especially Mum Pat and sisters Denise, Ali and Sian."

The families and friends of the crew of the Heather Anne are being offered support by the Fishermen's Mission.

The Marine Investigation Branch is investigating the cause of the sinking.
