More art classes will be available for the over 60s in Cornwall.

The National Maritime Museum has been working with the Age UK's befriending service to run an art club in Falmouth one afternoon a month.

Now funding of £3,000 from the Santander Foundation will mean the club can offer classes twice a month.

As well as teaching painting and drawing skills, the art club helps people make new friends.

Art club spokeswoman Naomi Belert said the Santander grant meant it could now increase its capacity and meet the demand for more frequent sessions.

She described the benefits of the project as "far reaching and long term".

"For some, this class provides a vital lifeline to the outside world for older people who may feel lonely and isolated in their own homes," Ms Belert added.
