Family sleeps through suspected Camelford arson attack

A family of three, including a seven-year-old girl slept through a suspected arson attack at their home in Cornwall.

Police said the fire occurred between 23:00 GMT on Tuesday and 07:45 GMT at the property on Fore Street, Camelford which was being renovated.

The homeowner said he woke to his find plastering liquid had been poured down the stairs and a cardboard box set alight.

Police said it was fortunate the fire did not take hold.

The man's partner and his daughter were also in the house.

Det Con Grant Mills, of Devon and Cornwall Police, said: "This appears to have been a deliberate attempt to start a fire at this property.

"Thankfully, the fire did not take hold or the consequences could have been much more serious for those involved."
