Cornwall unemployment figures fall slightly

The number of people out of work and claiming benefits in Cornwall has fallen slightly since July, official figures reveal.

The data from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) showed that in August 8,635 people were out of work, down 31 from 8666 in July.

The figure equates to about 2.6% of the county's workforce.

The ONS said the national claimant count fell by 15,000 in August to 1.57 million.

Figures from this time last year show unemployment in Cornwall has risen with 248 more people out of work and claiming benefit compared to August 2011.
