A man who murdered a fellow resident at a supported home in Cornwall has been jailed for a minimum of 13 years.

Somes McFarland, 28, attacked Peter Oates, 51, in his room at Henley House, in Fore Street, Pool, Truro Crown Court previously heard.

Mr Oates suffered 19 fractures of the ribs and injuries to his head and neck and his body was found on 25 March.

At an earlier hearing the court was told McFarland claimed he was drunk and had no recollection of the incident.

McFarland was found guilty of murder on 7 December.

After the verdict, Mr Oates's family said he was sadly missed and was a generous, kind-hearted man.

They added: "[We] find it difficult to comprehend the tragic circumstances in which he died."
