Racing under way in Isles of Scilly gig championship


More than 2,000 rowers from as far afield as Holland are taking part in the annual World Pilot Gig Championship on the Isles of Scilly.

This year there are 133 gigs racing in the event, only 19 boats took part in the first championship in 1989.

The championship heats took place on Saturday with choppy conditions for those taking part.

The event culminates on Sunday with the men's and ladies finals. It launched on Friday evening with the veterans' races.
