Isles of Scilly lobsters tagged to test fishery

Four thousand lobsters are being tagged in the sea around the Isles of Scilly as part of a two-year study to check whether the fishery is sustainable.

Fishermen who catch the lobsters record their size before releasing them.

It is the first time it has been done in the Isles of Scilly, according to the Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority.

Doug Holt, from the authority, said the study did not expect to find problems with sustainability.

If successful, he said fishermen would be able to market their catches as officially sustainable, which recognises that fish populations can be maintained in the long-term.
