Saltash swimmer rescued off Seaton beach dies in hospital
A swimmer has died after getting into difficulties in the sea off the Cornish coast.
The 40-year-old woman was pulled unconscious from the water at Seaton beach near Looe on Tuesday evening by an off-duty police officer.
Attempts were made to resuscitate the swimmer, who was from Saltash, before paramedics arrived.
She was airlifted to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth by air ambulance, but later died.
The woman was thought to have suffered a "medical episode" while swimming, Devon and Cornwall Police said.
A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out later.
