A diver who got into difficulty off the Isles of Scilly has died in hospital, police have confirmed.

The man, 49, from the London area, lost consciousness after surfacing on Wednesday.

He was airlifted to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro where he has since died. It is thought the man had been on a diving holiday at the time.

His death is being investigated by police but it is not believed to be suspicious.

Another man who had made a rapid ascent was airlifted to the hyperbaric chamber at the Diving Diseases Research Centre in Plymouth.

His condition is not known.
