New chief executive for Isles of Scilly Council

A new permanent chief executive has been appointed by the Isles of Scilly Council.

Theo Leijser is replacing the current interim chief Barry Keel.

Mr Keel took over the role from former permanent chief Philip Hygate, who had served in the post for 20 years before taking early retirement in January.

Mr Leijser, who formerly worked at the South West Regional Development Agency, is expected to take up his post early in the new year, the council said.

Mr Leijser is currently head of South West Growth Delivery Team for the Department of Communities and Local Government.

The islands are home to 2,200 people, and the islands' unitary council is their biggest employer, providing jobs for 10% of the population.
