A man has died in a crash on the A38 near Saltash in east Cornwall, police have confirmed.

A Devon and Cornwall spokesman said the car collided with a stationary trailer just after 07:00 BST, near the Carkeel roundabout.

The man was the only occupant in the car and was taken to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth but died soon after.

Local diversions were in place for several hours but police have now reopened both sides of the A38.

The victim was described as middle aged and from the local area.
