Armed police arrest a man on a bus in Cornwall

Armed police boarded a bus in Cornwall to arrest a man suspected of carrying a weapon.

Officers with firearms were first called at 13:00 GMT to a property in Henver Road, Newquay after reports of an alleged assault with a weapon.

At 14:45 GMT armed officers arrested a man on a bus travelling from Newquay to Truro.

The driver of the bus alerted the police after he became suspicious of the passenger's behaviour.

Police were unable to clarify whether there was any weapon recovered at the scene of the arrest.

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police declined to elaborate on what sort of weapon was allegedly used.

Police said a man in his 30s was taken to hospital with a facial injury following the incident in Newquay.

A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm.
