Special constable cleared of Newquay hit-and-run van crash

A special constable with Devon and Cornwall Police has been cleared of a hit-and-run while driving a police van.

James Murray, 47, was charged with failing to stop after an accident and driving without due care and attention.

Mr Murray was alleged to have hit a pedestrian in a police van on East Street in Newquay in April 2014.

Mr Murray, from St Columb Major near Newquay, was found not guilty of both charges at a trial at Bodmin Magistrates Court.
