A mineshaft has collapsed in west Cornwall, causing a road to be closed.

Gwallon Lane in Marazion was closed for engineers to assess the hole, which has been described by Devon and Cornwall Police as up to 50ft (15m) deep.

Cornwall Council road contractor Cormac tweeted that a geo-technical team was on site "assessing the opening".

Staff at nearby Wheal Rodney Holiday Park told BBC Cornwall they had no idea it was the site of a mine and that the hole had opened without warning.
