Murder inquiry launched after 'suspicious' death

An elderly woman has been found dead, prompting a murder inquiry to be launched.

Devon and Cornwall Police were called to St Merryn in Cornwall on Wednesday after "concerns were raised for the welfare of the woman".

Officers found the woman in her 80s dead. Her death is being treated as suspicious.

An 88-year-old man from Padstow has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

Police have yet to formally identify the woman. Her next of kin have been informed.
