An elderly woman has died in a bungalow fire despite "brave attempts" to save her.

A neighbour attempted to rescue the woman from the house in Whiterock Road, Wadebridge, on Wednesday, the fire service said.

She was taken to Treliske Hospital in Cornwall in a critical condition, where she later died.

Devon and Cornwall Police said a man from the property was treated for the effects of smoke inhalation.

A neighbour also went to hospital as a precaution, the force said, but both men have since been discharged.
