Two men jailed for murdering Ranjit Singh in Exhall
Two men have been jailed for the murder of a man found unconscious in a garden.
Ranjit Singh, 55, was discovered outside a house in Mawnan Close, Exhall, in Warwickshire in June last year. He died a day later in hospital.
Onkar Chhokar, 52, and Balkar Chima, 56, were convicted of murder at Birmingham Crown Court on Thursday.
Chhokar, of Mawnan Close, and Chima, of The Copse, in Exhall were given life sentences and must serve a minimum of 16 years.
Det Ch Insp Pete Hill of Warwickshire Police said: "Ranjit Singh was horrifically assaulted at the hands of his so called friends who, having inflicted injuries that were to prove fatal, dragged him out of the house in Mawnan Close, and left him dying on the doorstep.
"They took advantage of his vulnerabilities and systematically abused him.
"I am pleased that the jury saw through their tissue of lies and that justice was done for Ranjit.
"I would also like to thank the true friends of Ranjit who had the courage to come to court and give evidence, likewise the people in the community both in Stoke Aldermoor and Exhall who helped with this inquiry.
"My thoughts at this time are with Ranjit's sister, and her husband, who had to go through the ordeal of hearing how Ranjit had been horrifically abused and assaulted."
