Glass pane falls among Coventry West Orchards shoppers

A pane of glass has fallen 15ft (4.5m) from the canopy of a shopping centre in Coventry, smashing on the floor below.

No-one was hurt when it shattered in West Orchards shopping centre, in Smithford Way, on Tuesday afternoon.

The centre said it had no idea what had caused the pane to fall but an engineer was securing the canopy on Wednesday.

Graham White was shopping at the time and said: "It was a complete pane, a complete piece of glass. It just shattered all over the place."

"All you heard were the screams of the people as they moved out of the way as the glass hit the floor," he added.
