West Midlands Police senior officer suspended

A senior police officer based in Coventry has been suspended following allegations he accessed inappropriate material on the internet.

A West Midlands Police spokesman confirmed they were investigating the claims internally.

He said a criminal investigation, which was started when the man was arrested on 14 July in Bedworth, has now ended.

No criminal offences have been committed he said but the internal review would continue.

He has not been named officially but the BBC understands the man is Insp Brian Hornsby.

Internal disciplinary process

The 48-year-old man was originally bailed until a date later this month, however that bail has been cancelled.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "West Midlands Police is a transparent, accountable organisation which expects the highest standards of professionalism and integrity from its officers.

"Any issues from here forward will be dealt with through the internal disciplinary process."

Police said the officer was suspended from duty shortly after the allegations came to light.

They have not commented on the nature of the alleged inappropriate material.
