An £11m Sikh temple in Leamington Spa provided tours to over 300 visitors for Heritage Open Days 2011.

The Gurdwara Sahib on the Queensway trading estate has iconic white domes visible from the M40.

For the Heritage Open event on 8-11 September visitors were able to explore areas usually closed to the public.

Jatinder Singh Birdi, from the temple, said: "People are quite in awe when they come in. Internally it's a magnificent place."

He added: "People were very curious to see the building work because it's massive.

"Now it's nearly two years old some of the people coming during the weekend said they always wondered what happened inside but didn't want to interrupt anything taking place.

"Open days encourage them to get over that fear and have a look."

Organisers at the Sikh temple also used the event to publicise that visitors are welcome any time.
