Nuneaton injured man 'hit-and-run' victim

A 52-year-old man who was found injured in a Warwickshire street is said to be in a critical condition in hospital.

A police spokesman said the man's injuries suggested he had been run over by a vehicle.

The ambulance service was called to Burnaby Close in Nuneaton at about 00:05 BST after receiving a report that a man had fallen from a vehicle.

A 56-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and is currently being questioned.

The injured man was taken to the University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire where he underwent surgery.

The spokesman added that the man had caught a taxi to Burnaby Close from the Royal Oak public house in Stockingford shortly before midnight.

Police are appealing for witnesses.
