Two killed when car hits tree in Coventry

Two people died when their car left the road and crashed into a tree in Coventry.

The incident happened in London Road, near Whitley Village, on Saturday.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said a man and woman were travelling in the car when it crashed.

The driver of the car, a man, was pronounced dead at the scene, while his female passenger also died before she could be released from the car.

West Midlands Police said the families of the 20-year-old driver and his 22-year old passenger, both from Coventry, had been informed.

Sgt Tim Rogers said he wanted to speak to anyone who had seen the car, a Ford Fiesta, before the crash. He has also appealed for people travelling in a white BMW thought to have been passing at the time of the collision, to come forward.

An ambulance service spokeswoman said: "The front seat passenger, a woman, sustained multiple injuries and was trapped in the vehicle.

"Crews and the medic quickly started to extricate the woman from the car with help from the fire service."

"Sadly, the woman went into cardiac arrest before being released from the vehicle."
