Stratford-upon-Avon railway station to get footbridge

A Warwickshire railway station is to get a new £1.26m passenger footbridge by March 2014.

The bridge at Stratford-upon-Avon will mean disabled passengers will no longer have to use a "mini level crossing" to get to the island platform.

The government approved a Warwickshire County Council bid and improvements will mean new lifts and easier access.

The bid was for £1m, with the balance expected to be met by developer contributions.

Councillor Peter Butlin, Warwickshire County Council's portfolio holder for highways and transport, said: "The new footbridge is a much needed improvement which will help bring the station up to date by providing better access for passengers."
