March held over Rugby cemetery and crematorium plans

A march has been held in protest at plans to build a new crematorium and cemetery in Warwickshire.

Rugby Borough Council and Daventry District Council said without it burial space would run out in the borough within the next three to five years.

They want to build the £3m facility off Ashlawn Road on the outskirts of Rugby.

Protesters said they were not against a development, but the proposed site would harm the environment and generate a lot of noise from the extra traffic.

About 100 people attended the march in Rugby earlier.

A joint planning application for the crematorium was submitted to Rugby Borough Council in September, but it has not yet been considered by the planning committee.
