Star-crossed lovers have the chance to be centre stage in Warwickshire as Shakespeare's theatres can now host weddings and civil partnerships.

The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) in Stratford-upon-Avon has become fully licensed for marriage ceremonies.

Couples can tie the knot on the main stage in front of 1,000 invited guests, or in the Swan Theatre.

They can even take their vows at the top of the theatre's 118 ft (36m) tower with panoramas of the Bard's hometown.

There are eight other licensed spaces throughout the RSC's building, including rehearsal studios and reading rooms.

A team of voice and movement artists can help nervous brides and grooms prepare for their wedding performance, the RSC said.

Liz Wainwright, head of theatre operations said: "There is something very romantic about the world of theatre and we like to think it has a unique atmosphere.

"Theatre is a place where magical things can happen and where dreams become reality so it is such an apt setting for a wedding or civil partnership."

The RSC reopened the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and the Swan Theatre in 2010 following a £112m refit.
