Mariam Alam death: Pair arrested on suspicion of murder

Police have arrested a 35-year-old man and a woman, 32, on suspicion of murdering a three-year-old girl in Coventry last year.

Mariam Alam was found at her home in Fisher Road, Foleshill, on 30 November. She died in hospital as a result of a head injury, a post-mortem revealed.

Two other people were arrested and released on bail in January.

Officers are appealing for an anonymous caller from the 9 January to get back in touch to help with their inquiry.

'Complex' investigation

Det Insp Chris Hanson, from West Midlands Police, said: "This is clearly a very sensitive case and our investigation is a complex one.

"We are following up a number of lines of inquiry but today I am directly appealing to the person who made the call to us on 9 January to please get back in touch.

"I believe that this person, or indeed anyone else in the community, could hold crucial information which would assist this inquiry.

"Any incident where a child's life is lost in suspicious circumstances understandably causes concern in the community and we will continue with this investigation until we have been able to fully establish how and why Mariam died."

The pair questioned earlier in the year was a 34-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman.

Coventry City Council said the child was not known to the city's social services.
