About 40 firefighters have tackled a blaze at a Warwickshire art gallery.

Fire crews were called to Warwick Studios fine art gallery, behind the fire station in Leamington Spa, at 13:25 BST.

At the height of the blaze, nine fire appliances were at the scene tackling the fire which had spread to the second floor of the building.

Firefighters said the fire was under control but staff would remain on site damping down hotspots.

The fire investigation team were on site but the cause of the fire was not yet known, a spokesman said.

Earlier, Gary Philips, of Warwickshire Fire Service, said earlier the conditions were very difficult.

"Of course with the weather being 26C to 27C... it's making it very difficult conditions for the firefighters to work in, but they are working very, very hard," he said.
