Winning summer for Coventry band Dark Actors
Coventry band Dark Actors have had a summer of mixed emotions.
The BBC Coventry & Warwickshire Band of the Month for August won the title of Godiva Unsigned Winners 2012, but did not get to play the Godiva Festival.
It was cancelled due to heavy rain and the final of the unsigned band contest was moved to the Kasbah nightclub.
It was here that the band won the title, but they were unable to go on to play the festival's main stage on the Saturday.
Recording an album
They will now be playing Godiva in the Square, which will be held in Broadgate on 23 September.
Coventry City Council lost £350,000 on the original event but the authority hopes "to build on the feel-good factor in the city post-Olympics" having hosted 12 football matches for the London 2012 Olympics.
The five-piece band formed in September 2011 and combine Americana and country with rock and pop.
Members Andy Beglin, David Needle, Chris Dickson, Richard Heneghan and Nick Jones have all been connected to the Coventry music scene with other bands over the years.
Dark Actors are in the process of recording an album and are "looking to reach out to a wider audience" and build on their fanbase.
Most of their music is self-produced and is recorded at a studio in Coventry or at their individual homes.
Record producer and Godiva Unsigned judge Roger Lomas, said: "Dark Actors are deserving winners and we're certain that they'll go onto massive success."
The band said that they are looking forward to playing the main stage of Godiva Festival next year.
