A woman has died after her car burst into flames when it collided with another vehicle.

The 44-year-old was declared dead at the scene of the incident in Browns Lane, Coventry, at about 07:20 GMT.

Police said she was believed to have collided with a Mercedes SLK 250 shortly before the fire started.

A 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after police searched the area for the driver of the luxury car.

PC Paul Cope, from West Midlands Police, said: "This was a tragic incident in which a 44-year-old woman lost her life.

"Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this sad time.

"As with all fatal collisions, there will now be an investigation to establish how she lost her life.

"We are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and saw either car in the moments leading up to the crash."
