A couple had an "incredibly lucky escape" after their car ploughed into the front of a shop, an ambulance service has said.

The pair, in their 60s, had been in the vehicle when it came off the road in Coventry, causing "considerable damage" to the premises.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said the car had "narrowly missed a number of pedestrians" before it hit the shop.

Neither occupant suffered significant injuries.

Both were taken from the scene, on the junction of Humber Road and Bolingbrooke Road, shortly after 13:50 GMT, to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire as a precaution.

The ambulance service said the couple had been "extremely fortunate" to avoid serious injury.
