Fire at Coventry shoe warehouse destroys building
A large blaze has destroyed a shoe warehouse in Coventry but firefighters managed to stop it spreading to nearby retail units, the service said.
About 80 firefighters tackled the blaze at the United Footwear plant on Holbrook Lane on Sunday evening.
West Midlands Fire Service said its response was scaled down late on Sunday, but crews have remained to ensure buildings were safe.
Fire investigators are trying to establish the cause of the incident.
The incident closed several roads but they have since reopened.
John Waterman, from West Midlands Fire Service, said: "We managed to get the water supply sorted quite quickly with this high volume pump and then were able to protect the surrounding properties and stop the fire spreading as much as it could have done."
The fire service said it was working with nearby traders to get businesses reopened.
None of the stock could be saved from the building, which might be demolished, the service added.
