Man remanded over double stabbing in Cumbria

A man has appeared in court accused of attempted murder after a double stabbing in Cumbria.

Adam Smith, 25, was arrested after a man and a woman, both aged 23, suffered stab wounds in a flat in Scotby, near Carlisle earlier this month.

Mr Smith, of Balfour Road, Raffles, was charged with attempted murder, kidnap, causing grievous bodily harm and possessing a bladed article in public.

He did not enter a plea and was remanded in custody until 23 December.

Mr Smith was arrested after police were called to a flat in Strawberry Bank, Scotby, following reports of a disturbance in the early hours of 12 September.

A man was taken to the intensive care unit at Carlisle's Cumberland Infirmary with puncture wounds to his face and neck.

A woman was released from hospital after treatment.
