Dog is shot dead with air weapon in Cumbria woodland

A dog has died after being shot in woodland in Cumbria.

Police said the dog, Pudsey, a six-year-old working collie, died after being shot by an air weapon.

It is believed the incident happened between 1130 GMT and 1330 GMT on Wednesday in woodland near to Cockermouth.

A vet confirmed the dog had died from injuries caused by an air pellet. Police are investigating and are appealing for witnesses.
