Police say they are increasingly concerned about the whereabouts of a 60-year-old fell walker who was last seen in Ambleside in the Lake District.

Gwenda Merriot, of Wilton, near Marlborough in Wiltshire, was last seen at 1130 GMT on Wednesday at Rydal Road car park.

Police are worried as heavy snowfall is forecast for the area overnight.

Mountain rescue teams with search dogs are scouring the area, but deep snow drifts are hampering the search.

Ms Merriot is described as 5ft 6ins (1.67m) tall, of slight build with short, spiky, black and grey hair.

She was wearing a blue and black top, brown hiking boots and carrying a blue rucksack.
