Carlisle man arrested over park rape

A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape after a woman was attacked in a Carlisle park.

The 21-year-old was walking through Melbourne Park late on Wednesday when she was grabbed from behind, dragged into undergrowth and assaulted.

Det Chief Insp Jason Hudson, of Cumbria Police, said the man was arrested on Thursday and is being questioned.

Crime scene investigators and officers with dogs carried out a search of the scene, which remains cordoned off.
