A councillor from Cumbria has been charged with a string of sex offences.

Tony Brunskill, of Great Salkeld, near Penrith, is charged with three counts of raping a boy and one of inciting him to engage in sexual activity.

The 65-year-old independent councillor, who represents the Lazonby ward on Eden District Council, is due to appear in court later this month.

Cumbria Police said the offences allegedly took place in Penrith between 2007 and 2010.

Mr Brunskill is a former chairman of Eden Council and has represented Lazonby since 1991.

He was arrested on suspicion of rape in December and released on bail. He was arrested again on 3 February.
