Fire crew rescues impaled seagull in Whitehaven

Firefighters in Cumbria carried out a rescue with a difference when they were called to the aid of stranded seagull.

The bird had become impaled on an aerial on the roof of a house in Whinlatter Road in Whitehaven.

RSPCA staff called in Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service when it emerged specialist equipment would be needed to free the stricken bird on Tuesday.

A fire crew used a extendable ladder to reach the seagull, which was retrieved safe and well.
