Cumbria campus course provider announced

A North Yorkshire college will take over providing further education courses at a Cumbria campus.

The Skills Funding Agency has appointed Askham Bryan College to take over the provision at Newton Rigg, Penrith, from the University of Cumbria.

The two organisations are now working together to decide the details.

The range of courses at the Newton Rigg campus includes agriculture, horticulture, animal care and countryside management.

Conservative MP for Penrith and the Border Rory Stewart said he wanted to make sure that land at the campus was protected for education use.

Former lecturer and leader of the Newton Rigg Future Group Jonty Rostron said he believed the land was covenanted for education.

He said he believed Askham Bryan and Newton Rigg would complement each other.
