A woman who died after she was hit by a truck in the drive of a Cumbria school has been named as a council worker.

Ann Harkes was collecting recycling at St Mary's C of E Nursery and Infant School in Windermere on Thursday when the accident happened.

The 58-year-old, from Great Urswick, near Ulverston, later died in hospital.

The wagon was being driven by another South Lakeland District Council worker. Police and the Health and Safety Executive are investigating.

Mrs Harkes' family has paid tribute to a "much-loved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister".

It said in a statement: "She was very generous with everything including her time.

"Respected and loved by all of her colleagues, friends and family alike, due to her bubbly personality and larger than life attitude, Ann will be deeply missed by all."
