Fuel and metal theft spate prompts warning in Cumbria

People living in rural areas of Cumbria have been warned to be vigilant following a spate of thefts.

Police said that the high value of fuel and scrap metal had led to thieves targeting less secure premises.

Over the past few days there have been a number of reports of fuel stolen from businesses and properties in the north of the county.

There have also been thefts of metal items, including gates, sheep hurdles, radiators and trailers.

People are urged to keep their property secure, and report any suspicious activity.
