Grass fire on Lake District fell

Firefighters have spent seven hours tackling a grass fire on a fell in the Lake District.

The fire began in dry and windy conditions on Muncaster Fell near Ravenglass in Cumbria at about 1530 BST on Saturday.

Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said the fire spread across an area of about 20 hectares (50 acres).

Four fire engines and the same number of Land Rovers were sent to tackle the flames. The last unit left at 2233 BST.

A fire service spokeswoman said the fire had been difficult to access. It was believed to have started accidentally.
