Youth charged after child assault in Carlisle

A teenager has been charged after a child was assaulted in a Carlisle park.

Cumbria Police said the two-year-old was treated for severe bruising at the Cumberland Infirmary after the incident on 15 April.

They said an assault took place in the area of Spider Park or on the river bank on Engine Lonning in Belle Vue.

A 16-year-old youth from Carlisle has been charged in connection with the incident on suspicion of assaulting a child.

He has been placed on court bail and will appear before Carlisle Magistrates' Court on 15 June for an initial hearing.
