Former Kendal postmistress sentenced for fraud

A former Cumbrian sub-postmistress who admitted a £25,000 fraud has been given a suspended prison sentence.

Katherine McQue falsified records at the Rinkfield post office in Kendal, to hide the fact that cash had gone missing, Carlisle Crown Court heard.

The 47-year-old, now of Cotebrook, near Tarporley, Cheshire, admitted fraud and has paid the money back.

She was given a nine-month prison sentence, suspended for two years and ordered to do 150 hours community work.

McQue had previously denied doing anything wrong, saying it was the fault of the post office accounting system.
