Workington police arrest 108 and seize £50,000 in drugs

More than 100 people have been arrested and drugs worth £50,000 seized during a five-month crackdown in two towns.

All the arrests have been made during raids in Maryport and Workington as part of Cumbria Police's Operation Ulterior.

Drugs seized have included heroin, cannabis, amphetamine and mephedrone.

Cumbria Police said the campaign was launched after complaints from locals and the force believed it had "disrupted" drug dealers.

In the latest raid, in Moorclose, Workington, three men and a woman were arrested and bailed after cannabis, cocaine and diazepam were recovered.

A Cumbria Police spokesman said: "We are serious about ridding our streets of illegal substances and will continue to use all available methods."
