Cumbria Police warning to BB guns owners
Owners of BB guns have been warned about the dangers of carrying them in public following an armed police operation in Cumbria.
Officers were called to the Clifford Street area of Barrow by reports of a man with what looked like a handgun.
An 18-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm, and a BB gun was seized.
A Cumbria Police spokesman said that such guns often looked real and could frighten people if seen in public.
He added: "This means that if somebody is seen carrying something that looks like a firearm in a public place they may find themselves face-to-face with armed police.
"In reality the only person who knows for sure if the gun is real is the person carrying it so I'd urge people to consider this and be responsible."
BB guns are a type of airgun which fire small round or pointed pellets.
