Mother charged after children found in car in Carlisle

A woman has been charged with neglect after she allegedly left her children alone in a car in Carlisle in hot weather.

Cumbria Police said the alarm was raised when the children began sounding the horn in Chapel Street, on Monday.

The children were removed and did not need hospital treatment. Police said a check of the temperature in the car measured it at 40C (104F).

The woman was charged with three counts of neglect.

She is due to appear at Carlisle Magistrates Court on 11 July.

A Cumbria Police spokesman said the children involved were aged between two and eight.
