Warning over council tax refund scam in Cumbria

Cold callers claiming to be from councils in Cumbria have been contacting residents offering them a council tax refund.

The fraudsters, claiming to be from Allerdale and Carlisle councils, have called several residents telling them they are entitled to a refund.

They then asked for bank details and a fee to process the refund.

Cumbria Police said the calls were fake and have urged people not to give out their details.
