Barrow house burgled after woman dies

The home of a woman who had recently died was targeted in what police in Cumbria have described as a "callous" burglary.

The death of the elderly woman, at the house in Earle Street, Barrow, is not thought to be suspicious.

A short time after undertakers removed the body, on Monday, a television was stolen from the house.

Five men, aged between 20 and 23, have been arrested on suspicion of burglary and released pending further inquiries.

Det Con Cheryl Smith, from Cumbria Police, said: "The lady's family are understandably devastated.

"They were informed that their relative had died suddenly, and then we had to deliver the news that her house had also been burgled.

"We hope that the community will come forward to provide us with information so that we can bring whoever is responsible for this crime to justice."
