Rawthey Gill fall victim dies in hospital

A 61-year-old man died after he slipped and fell 35ft (11m) while he was walking on a Cumbrian fell.

William Bingley, of Caton, Lancaster, was with his wife and a friend on a path above Rawthey Gill leading to Uldale Force when he fell on Sunday.

He was lifted by an RAF helicopter, diverted from exercise near Windermere, and was pronounced dead in hospital.

Kirkby Stephen Mountain Rescue team accompanied his wife and friend from the fell.
